RATIONALE

Rationale for the Programme

It has recently being reported that substantial quantities of hydrocarbons have been discovered along the western coast of Ghana. International companies are involved with the exploitation. The proposed Bachelor of Engineering (Oil and Gas) programme is aimed at training indigenous engineers who can participate in the development of the operations, and in the near future, direct the operations consistent with, and procure equipment required for, operations at conditions favorable to Ghana's national interests.

Petroleum and its products have the potential for creating wealth for the people of Ghana. Petroleum is the primary source of energy, worldwide, for transportation on land, in the air, by sea and on rails. It is also used significantly for the production of electricity, and for domestic cooking, heating and cooling of homes and industries. The balance is used to make petrochemicals from which a variety of products are fabricated. These include all plastic products in computers, calculators, toys, containers, vehicles, the synthetic fibers for clothes, domestic and industrial solvents and a variety of articles too many to count. This is adding value to the resource.

OBJECTIVES

The goal of the proposed program is to produce graduates with strong academic background in science who have analytical skills. The graduates are to be technically competent and also knowledgeable in the ethics of the practice of the profession, in addition to All Nations University College's signature Total Personality Development and Christian foundations.

 

ACCREDITATION

The Department of Oil and Gas Engineering is currently undergoing accreditation with the National Accreditation Board. However, in preparation for accreditation, All Nations University College has made all the necessary arrangements to commence as soon as accreditation is granted. This includes purchase of all required equipment, and hiring of staff on the ground.

Already the College can boast of modern well equipped lab and equipment to run the programme.
